Like a Freaky Friday, but on a Tuesday

Today on Top Ten Tuesday with The Broke and the Bookish we share which characters we would most like to change places with for twenty-four hours.

I thought this would be easy as pie – turns out not! I realised that I read a LOT of messed up and dark books. For example, awesome as little Rue is… I don’t want to change places with her. In no particular order, my Top Ten:

1. Rose Edelstein from The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake by Aimee Bender

She tastes emotion. I know Rose finds this to be a burden, and I don’t doubt the heaviness of such an ability, but I would like to experience it for a short while.

2. Professor McGonagall from the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling

Minerva is, without a doubt, the most wonderful professor I have ever “met”. She puts the spark back into learning and she’s fun and brave too. I suppose I’d rather spend 24 hours with her than BE her for 24 hours, perhaps. And she loves cats.

3. Sylvia Bell from Slide by Jill Hathaway

Again, Vee considers her “sliding” into other people’s minds to be a curse, and I know that it must be a terrifying and exhausting experience. Nevertheless, I would like a taste thereof.

4. Hana from Delirium by Lauren Oliver

She intrigues me, and I’d like to get to know her better. I also love her wild side!

5. Anna Oliphant from Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins

This girl gets to spend her senior year in a boarding school in PARIS! Obviously I would bunk class the entire 24 hours and explore the place…
6. Isabelle Lightwood from The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare

This girl kicks ass! And looks good doing it too; and doesn’t care what she says or does to whom. I’d love to experience her BAMFness.

7. Brian Robeson from the Hatchet books by Gary Paulsen

This kid has it tough, but he also has an adventure that’s seventy kinds of awesome!

8. Lirael from The Old Kingdom series by Garth Nix

She’s brave, enigmatic and has some awesome adventures and powers. She also has a great friend and a wonderful history.

9. Elizabeth from Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert

I wish I could do what she did. I’d love to share in those experiences.

10. Luna Lovegood from the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling

Luna is definitely my favourite on this list. She doesn’t care what people think, she’s a little crazy and I love her sense of style. I also love her dreaminess and her personal philosophy. I would love to be more like her.

  1. What a great list! I love Isabelle and Lirael. And yeah, I’d trade places with Anna in a heartbeat–Paris AND cute boys!

  2. Cassie says:

I would so want to be Luna Lovegood. I think she’s my favorite character in Harry Potter. However. Prof Mc can turn into a cat so….how do I really choose! Great answers.

    1. And to be a cat… would be quite an experience, I believe.

  3. Perhaps it is just too obvious, but I would want to trade places with Hermione Granger. I kind of relate to her bossy smartypants side, but she pulls it off better than I do by just not caring what the other kids think. Love that girl.

  4. Professor McG is a great choice- I considered Hermione but figured everyone else would.

  5. I love your list! I have Hermione on my but I also love Luna and McGonagall. Your Hana choice is great, too. Have you read her short story? If not, you should!

    1. I haven’t, but it’s on my TBR… I’m looking forward to it 🙂

  6. I really like your list! Yay for using Luna and Professor McGonagall. Luna is definitely one of my favourite characters from the Potter Universe. She made me laugh so much :). Aahhh you’ve included Anna from Anna and The French Kiss. I’ve given that book as a birthday present to some friends and I’ve yet to read it. Maybe this is a sign that I should get a move on and read it because so many people have included it on their list.

Thanks for stopping by my blog :).

    1. Thank you 🙂 you should read Anna when you get the time… it’s worth it (coming from a non-chic lit fan).

  7. KateB says:

I’d love to be like Elizabeth. I get travel lust whenever I read adventures that people have gone on after giving up their everyday lives and taken the risk. Professor McGonagall is fantastic too. She’s my favourite gryffindor character!

  8. I’d probably switch with other characters so I could MEET the characters on your list! So many great ones!

Thanks for stopping by my TTT!

  9. I put Luna too! I totally agree about Luna, Professor McGonagall and, Isabelle and Lirael though. Great answers!

  10. Brittany says:

Oooh Professor McGonagall is a great choice! As is Luna 🙂 I totally overlooked them and went straight to Hermione of course lol. Have you read the in between novella for Hana? I thought it was a really interesting insight to her character! Also I heard that (maybe, if I remember correctly) Requiem is going to be written from both Lena & Hana’s POVs. Very interested for that!!

    1. I have not actually read the inbetween novella, nope… but I do have a copy of it! So I’ll get to reading it sometimes soon. I still need to read Pandemonium too… Hana is quite something, like I can’t quite put my finger on it.

  11. Rachel says:

I love Luna. She’s my favorite Harry Potter bit character. In fact, I dressed up like her for the debut of the last HP movie (sad, I know, but I have some very excitable friends…) 😉

    1. That’s cute actually. I’ve never dressed up for a movie debut – probably cos I’ve never attended a debut!

  12. stuckinva says:

I bet Professor McGonnagal knows all sorts of interesting spells…I wonder if when you switch with them you get all of their knowledge or you’re just…you in their body. Of course, you’d have free access to all of her possessions, including written copies of said spells…:D

    1. Heh, in my world one would have access to their knowledge 😀
(Kind of like a soul from The Host or a Yeerk from Animorphs… now I’m not so sure about this whole thing 😛 )

  13. Gone Pecan says:

OMG, I LOVE LUNA. great choice. to be inside her head for 24 hours would definitely be an experience I would like to have. also, I like that you picked Isabelle instead of Clary. Isabelle isn’t hampered by being the heroine of the story and is such a great, fantastic, awesome character. ~dixie

    1. Thank you! I’m just not fond of Clary, she’s not all that brave and she’s a little whiny. I don’t hate her… I’d just much rather be Isabelle 😀
I think part of the fun in dreaming such daydreams is that one can hope that some of the character’s traits will stick even when the bodyswop is done. I would love to have a little of Luna’s eccentricity.

  14. tinalinatime says:

Prof McGonagall is so awesome! I’ve always wondered about her life story because she seems so cool. Good list!

    1. I think they elaborate about her life on Pottermore, but I’ve been a terrible little Potterhead and rarely check into the website…

  15. Great picks! I was seriously thinking about putting Elizabeth Gilbert on my list, but I wasn’t sure if she counted as a character since she’s a real person. I like that you picked Luna and Minerva – everyone keeps picking Hermione (I’m guilty of doing so myself, though I was tempted to put Peeves….how fun would that be?!). Thanks for stopping by! You’re blog is great – I’m following your RSS!

    1. She’s a real-life person? Ohyeah. Liz… Elizabeth… my bad. Hehe. But I used Steve Jobs in a previous list so I guess it’s okay.
Peeves! What an ingenious idea 😀
Thanks for the kind words 🙂

  16. Krystianna says:

I definitely agree with Sylvia from Slide by Jill Hathaway. It would be cool to experience that… at least once! I’d probably find it annoying after a while though.

    Thanks for sharing! 🙂

    1. Yeah, I get migraines so I’m sure I would hate to have her “gift” for life, but just for a day… could be fun.

  17. Sasha says:

Wow, some great choices! I don’t know if I’d exactly want to switch places with Brian from Hatchet, per se, but I do agree that he has a tremendous adventure!

Thanks for stopping by The Bookshelf and commenting! 🙂

    1. Hah, maybe I’m a sucker for punishment. When I was little I always wished something like Brian’s adventures would happen to me (until I realised that death was a very real possibility).

  18. Ree says:

Minerva is a fantastic choice…it’d be too fun to see life through her eyes for a day. 🙂 I like your list, and after reading that I went through and looked at some of your other posts. Lovely blog! I’m a new follower, for sure.

Thanks for stopping by LiteraryObsession.com today, it’s appreciated! 🙂

    1. Wow, thank you – that’s very sweet of you!

  19. elena says:

I love how unique your list is! These are such interesting characters and to trade places with any of them would be a one of a kind experience indeed.

  20. Thoroughly enjoyed reading your list! I would have to agree with you on a fair few of them, Lyriel, Isabell, Elizabeth…

    1. I’m glad you enjoyed them 🙂
