As you may know, I decided in about December last year that I would no longer allow my studies to prevent me from reading and keeping my mind from growing. So I attended the Cape Town Book Fair today. And it was amazing. Beyond amazing. But more about that in later posts.
This week’s Top Ten Tuesday with The Broke and the Bookish is a freebie and, indecisive as I am, I couldn’t pick my favourite past topic. So I chose 10! Fret not, I do not intend to give ten answers to each topic. Just one. There is a freebie coming up again soon, so I’ll have toContinue reading “TTT: Creme de la Creme”
So for about five months I’ve been meme-ing along with The Broke and the Bookish on a weekly basis – and I had no idea there were so many book blogs out there. This week, TBTB asks about the Top Ten Blogs or Sites we visit regularly that aren’t about books. I think I’m going to like this, becauseContinue reading “TTT: Best Procrastination Sites”
Don’t you just love reality shows? Okay I don’t really, but I can’t seem to drag my eyes away from them. I’ve never watched Jersey Shore of own accord, but if it’s playing in a room I enter, I can’t help but pay attention. It’s embarrassing actually.
I think one of the biggest reasons I read is because it inspires me. It inspires me to live, to love, to be bigger than I am, to exceed life’s expectations. I guess you could say I collect quotes – so today’s Top Ten Tuesday with The Broke and the Bookish is making me very happy. TheseContinue reading “TTT: Quotes that Inspire”
As a rule, I do not review non-medical books on this blog, unless it forms part of a Top Ten Tuesday. However, since my recent discovery of the myriad of book blogs, Goodreads and the ability to read while maintaining my schedule has led to me rather bravely attempting a bookish challenge, I have decidedContinue reading “Book Review: Kitchen Confidential”
Today’s Top Ten Tuesday from The Broke and the Bookish is a little counter-intuitive for me. My first love was, and will always be, books. I always watch movies based on books, but I am more often than not disappointed. It’s great that non-readers get to enjoy these stories too, but often they don’t get the deeperContinue reading “TTT: Books to Movies”
In 2012 I participate for the first time in a bookish challenge. Click here to see the different catagories. For the History category I read The Emperor of All Maladies by Siddhartha Mukherjee. The Emperor of all Maladies is a biography: not of a person or a company, but of a disease – one of the mostContinue reading “Book Review: The Emperor of All Maladies”
…and that’s Daemon, not demon… I have the cool opportunity to join Obsidian author Jennifer Armentrout and her readers in what they call Daemon Invasion, in anticipation of the release of the second Lux novel, Onyx. I will post an Obsidian review soon for those who haven’t read it yet. It’s sci-fi/paranormal/YA with some chemistry too andContinue reading “Daemon Invasion is Here”
People that don’t read often express confusion as to the attraction of the hobby. Why read? Why not be social and have friends? First-off, bookworms have friends. They do tend to be more picky though, in my experience. But here’s part of the real attraction in books: they introduce you to a wide array ofContinue reading “TTT: Characters of my Heart”
